Butterflies

Children in FS1 have enjoyed learning the life cycle of a butterfly. They watched five tiny caterpillars for two weeks grow, turn into a cocoon and then change into beautiful painted lady butterflies. The children then sang our ‘Tiny Caterpillar’ song as the butterflies were released into our lovely garden.

Chicks!

June 2019

In FS1, we have recently been learning about the life cycle of a chicken. The children have observed the eggs being counted into the incubator - there were 24 eggs in total! Over the following 21 days, we checked how many days the eggs had been in the incubator. On day 19, our first egg hatched at 4.05pm! The tea club children were so excited to see the damp chicken moving around in the incubator and they couldn't wait to tell their friends the next day. Over the following three days, 13 more chicks hatched and gradually moved into the brooder. The children were fascinated by how all of the chicks had different coloured feathers, and how soft they felt. The children thought of names for all of the chicks too! We were sad when the chicks went back to the farm, but we were excited to know how much they were enjoying running around in the field!

Maths Stay and Play

March 2019

It was wonderful to see so many adults joining us and playing with the children for the Maths Stay and Play session today. We hope it has been helpful to see all the play opportunities that can support children's early Maths skills.
A lot of children enjoyed forming numbers in the small sand tray with paint brushes and a lot engaged in using paints to form numbers.

Road Safety

March 2019

We were very lucky in FS1 to have a visit from Ellie who told the children all about the importance of road safety. The children practised crossing a road, talked about traffic lights and also about how to keep themselves safe on the roads. They had a wonderful day!

World Book Day

March 2019

We had a fantastic day in FS1 celebrating 'World Book Day'. The children enjoyed sharing books with their friends, reading books with adults, and engaging in other book related activities. It was lovely to see the children dressed up as their favourite characters. We loved that some of you brought books from home to share with everyone in FS1.

Chinese New Year

Feb 2019

We have really enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year this week. We have thought about what is similar, and different to our own New Year celebrations. The children have made spring rolls, cards and gift tags to give tangerines to family members. They have also enjoyed painting blossom tree paintings, taking part in dragon dancing and using ICT to gain new knowledge.

Changes to the Big Garden

Jan 2019

We have had further changes to the big garden, and today the workmen were building a canopy over the mud kithcen. Some children enjoyed watching them, there was even a digger at one stage! Children created drawings of their observations which will be added to their individual records of achievement.

Christmas 2018

We are busy getting ready for Christmas! The children have been enjoying a range of activities including making Christmas cards, calendars and even baking a Christmas cake! We have written letters to Santa and also completed lots of Christmas art work.

Welcome to FS1

FS1 have made a brilliant start to the new year. The children are all settling in wonderfully; we are all gaining confidence in following our routines as well as enjoying playing with friends.

Here are a few photos to show all the exciting learning that has been taking place within the FS1 Base. We have had lots of exciting learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors.

Our activities have included gardening, mark making, singing number songs, climbing outdoors and dancing!
