Exploring the Outdoors

Throughout January and February the children have been putting on their outdoor suits to explore the garden in the wintery weather. As they played they experienced feeling at the snow, and jumping in the puddles!

Exploring Slime!

February

The children explored the slime in pre-school using all their senses. They learnt lots of new words when describing how the slime felt, smelt and looked. They described the slime as, “Sticky, cold, smooth, gooey”.

Baking

During February the children have been baking. They took turns to measure out the ingredients to bake their own buns. They also enjoyed making pancakes. They chose different toppings to taste and choose their favourites.

Chinese New Year

January

Our children celebrated the Chinese New Year by tasting a variety of Chinese food, making Chinese dragons and visiting the FS1 children to see their dancing Chinese dragon. The children really enjoyed watching a Chinese dragon on the Ipad and then used their imagination to use different materials to re-enact their own.

Exploring Textures

To help develop their confidence with trying new activities the children have been exploring different textures. They really enjoyed the feel of the shaving foam, and making all the different patterns and shapes.

RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch

January

Pre-school children have been learning about the different birds that visit our garden. We have talked about how we can look after the birds in winter. The children used pine cones to make birdfeeders and hung them in the trees outside. We also made binoculars and watched the birds through the windows, talking about the different colours and species.

Role Play

In the 2-3 room the children have been dressing up in different outfits. They have particularly enjoyed playing at being Christmas characters such as Santa and the reindeers.

Food Tasting and Toasting Marshmallows

The children have been enjoying trying different kinds of food, incuding fruits such as plums, oranges and nectarines. We also carved a pumpkin for some soup.

We also toasted marshmallows on the fire pit in the garden. The children learned all about fire safety as well as enjoying tasting the results!

Autumn

The children have been learning about autumn by using a selection of different resources: They have explored the garden looking for animals such as squirrels and birds, collected leaves to make collages and done some leaf printing using hammers. We've had an Autumn themed spot tray filled with leaves, conkers and pine cones to explore. The children have also used all of their senses to explore pumpkins, by feeling the texture, smelling the flesh and making some soup to have a taste too.

Rainy Weather!

Pre-school have been making the most of the rainy weather! The children have enjoyed whisking bubbles in the puddles using sticks, whisks and spoons. We sang songs as we swept the puddles and stomped and jumped around!

“This is the way we sweep the puddle, sweep the puddle, sweep the puddle!”

“It’s raining, it’s pouring!”
