Using Building Blocks
As the children in the 0-2 Room build with blocks they develop their hand eye coordination and fine and gross motor skills. They also learn how to interact and communicate by taking turns and sharing resources. As they use their imagination to create different shapes they learn about colour, size and space, and how to problem solve.
Walks in the Garden
In the 0-2 Room the babies and toddlers have been observing birds in the garden. As they’ve explored the natural world around them they have learned how to take risks which helps their confidence, self-esteem and decision making. They have had first hand experience of the changes in the weather, seasons and nature. This is an exciting sensory experience!
0-2 Room
In the 0-2 room we’ve been sharing nursery rhymes to develop the children’s early literacy skills, communication and language. As they enjoy the sounds and music they move their whole body. The children also start to make relationships by joining in with action songs such as ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’. The song boxes allow children to be independent by making choices to choose their favourite songs.
Exploring Colours in the 0-2 Room
We have been providing a range of resources in the 0-2 room to enable the children to explore colours. For example scarves, coloured treasure baskets, coloured blocks, introducing the children to paints and mark making. Staff have encouraged engagement, modelling and introducing new language at the varying levels needed to meet the children’s needs. This covers many areas of the early years foundation including early maths skills, being imaginative, understanding the word, communication and language as well as developing their fine motor skills for early writing.
Treasure Baskets
In the 0-2 room the children have been exploring treasure baskets.
Treasure baskets for babies contain collections of objects that are usually natural or made from natural materials. Babies explore the texture, taste, smell and sound of the objects, not just the look of them. The baskets can help babies to:
- explore natural objects, textures and colours, using all their senses
- develop attention and concentration
- practice and refine their fine motor control and eye/hand co-ordination
- make simple choices and develop preferences.
Welcome to the 0-2 Room
Children are settling into the 0-2 room using a broad range of exciting activities which are planned to meet their individual needs and interests. They are building trusting relationships with staff members who are engaging children through positive interactions and supporting them to have a positive and stimulating start to their education.
