Please take a look at our weekly timetable of activities...
Home visits, support and groups are available to families ante natally. You are welcome to join us at our Feeding Friendly group or any of our baby groups during your pregnancy. Through attending sessions you will have the opportunity to meet with staff, make friendships with other families and gain knowledge and information.
If you would like a home visit from a member of staff, please contact the centre.
New Birth Visits
Parents/Carers with new babies will be offered a home visit from the Family Support Team to introduce ourselves, give you the opportunity to register with the Centre and inform you of the range of services on offer. Staff will share the timetable of events with you, informing you of activities and events which run in your local area.
Splash Time swimming sessions run at Aston-cum-Aughton Leisure Centre periodically throughout the year. The sessions run for 1 hour a week over 4 weeks. We have private hire of the teaching pool and a Lifeguard is on duty. These sessions allow you to enjoy time in the water with you baby/child to build their confidence and to have a positive experience in the water. Toys are available to use within the session.
For dates of the next course please contact us at the centre.
Infant massage classes are run both in the Centre and in outreach centres in the area.
The courses are run for three consecutive weeks by a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (C.I.M.I.)
During this time participants massage their own babies and are being guided through a step by step massage routine which uses a carefully balanced combination of Indian and Swedish massage and reflexology techniques.
Classes are designed for pre-crawling babies. We can also offer one to one support for parents/carers who can not make it to a course for various reasons.
Infant massage can
- improve communication between parent/carer and baby and help parent/carer understand their needs
- help to strengthen attachment, calm, soothe and relieve stress in babies
- aid digestion and help reduce colic and constipation
- develop muscle tone, co-ordination and strengthen immune system plus much more.
Please contact the Centre for upcoming dates and to add your details to the waiting list. Courses run in Thurcroft, Brinsworth, Catcliffe and Aughton areas periodically.
Giggles and Gurgles
This is a guide to Infant Feeding, Oral Health and Home Safety and will replace Weaning Workshops. The next session is on Thursday 15th March at 10.00-11.30 at Thurcroft Children and Family Centre.

Baby Groups held by the Centre in the Community
These are drop in sessions and are supported by our Community Outreach Workers. They are informal sessions where parents/carers can relax in the knowledge their child is safe. During the sessions they can talk to parents who have similiar experiences and help support each other. Please feel free to come along and join us for a cup of coffee.
