Apprentice Bus Drivers for Stagecoach

Stagecoach, in partnership with Interserve, are recruiting Apprentice Bus Drivers. The apprenticeship is open to those aged 18+ with a full UK drivers licence and Joanne Woolsey from Interserve will be attending Rotherham JC on Monday 10th December to see customers on a 1-2-1 basis to determine their suitability for this role.

Stagecoach are looking for enthusiastic, helpful and customer focused individuals who are friendly, courteous & can remain calm under pressure. Previous customer service experience would be an advantage as would the ability to converse with people from different backgrounds. Candidates should ideally have a grade A-D GCSE in English & Maths but if they don’t have this then they must have good basic skills.

Essential criteria are that the individual:-

· Has a full UK driving licence with 6 or less penalty points unless the licence has been held for less than 2 years in which case it should be clean.

· Must not have had a driving ban in the last 5 years

· Must not have any live criminal convictions and must not be involved in any proceedings which may lead to a criminal conviction

· Would be able to pass a drug & alcohol test

· Due to health & safety reasons the individual must weigh less then 18 stone (this is linked to the cabin the driver sits in)

If the individual passes the 1-2-1 interview with Joanne then she will invite them to an assessment day (currently scheduled to take place on the 13th & 20th December) where they will undertake the D&A test, a driving assessment in an everyday vehicle, a test on the Highway Code and have a 1-2-1 interview with someone from Stagecoach. If the individual passes this stage they will then have to undertake a medical to ensure they are medically fit to drive a bus.

Full paid training is provided (salary starts at £18K) which is expected to take 14 months to complete. The training package includes training to obtain a PCV licence & to attain a ‘Passenger Transport Operations Services’ Bus Driver Level 2 Standard qualification.
